Cristina Ruggirello - oboe

  Cristina Ruggirello completed advanced studies at the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg and at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, earning the Diploma of Merit under the guidance of Hansjörg Schellenberger. She also took part in masterclasses held by Maurice Bourgue in Locarno (Switzerland) and by Francesco Di Rosa (Accademia Filarmonica della Scala).

 

  In 1994 she was admitted to the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra in Vienna and to the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana (FOSI) in Lugano, taking part in prestigious festivals with internationally renowned conductors such as Alain Lombard, Tamas Vasary, Angelo Campori, Jean-Bernard Pommier, Isaac Karabtchevsky, Ion Marin, among others, and accompanying soloists such as Cristina Ortiz, Natalia Gutman, Mikhail Pletnev, and José Van Dam. She also recorded for Swiss Italian Radio.

 

  In 1996 she won the audition for principal oboe with the Orquestra do Norte in Portugal, where for two years she pursued an intense orchestral and chamber-music career, recording for national radio (RDP) and television (RTP), including world-premiere performances.

 

  She has collaborated with the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, I Solisti Veneti, I Filarmonici di Torino (including several editions of Pavarotti and Friends), the United Europe Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra d’Archi della Scala, the Musikkollegium Orchestra of Winterthur under Heinz Holliger, and the Filarmonica Toscanini in Parma under Lorin Maazel and Eliahu Inbal. As principal oboe, she has performed with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi and with the Franz Terraneo Chamber Orchestra in Como.

 

  She is also active in contemporary chamber music with the ensembles Sentieri Selvaggi and Divertimento Ensemble, collaborating with Eros Negri, Stefano Gervasoni, and Yigit Ozatalay. The Avanzi–Ruggirello duo has premiered works dedicated to them by the latter two composers. Since 2019 the duo has been collaborating with the University of Milan-Bicocca.

 

  Since 2008, Cristina Ruggirello has been teaching oboe in upper secondary education
